With Viral Fever raging, we thought knowing more and some extra health tips will help to keep healthy and fit!

Knowing what Viral fever is??

Fevers are often a sign that your body is fighting off some type of bacterial or viral infection. A viral fever is any fever that’s caused by an underlying viral illness. A variety of viral infections can affect humans, from the common cold to the flu. A low-grade fever is a symptom of many viral infections. But some viral infections, such as dengue fever, can cause a higher fever.

How did it happen??

• Inhalation: If someone with a viral infection sneezes or coughs near you, you can breathe in droplets containing the virus.
• Ingestion: Food and drinks can be contaminated with viruses.
• Bites: Insects and other animals can carry viruses. If they bite you, you can develop an infection such as dengue fever and rabies.
• Bodily fluids: Exchanging bodily fluids with someone who has a viral infection can transfer the illness. Examples of this type of viral infection include hepatitis B and HIV.

You might feel these (Symptoms):

• Sweating
• Dehydration
• Headache
• Muscle aches and pains
• A feeling of weakness
• Loss of appetite

How do you know if it is really a viral fever???

This is done by collecting your medical history and symptoms.
A laboratory test is sent to check for bacterial check, if this comes back negative, it is most likely a viral infection. Also, a sample of blood or other bodily fluid to check for certain markers that might indicate a viral infection, such as your white blood cell count.

How do you get well??

In most cases, viral fevers don’t require any specific treatment. Unlike bacterial infections, they don’t respond to antibiotics. Instead, treatment usually focuses on providing relief from your symptoms. Common treatment methods include:
• taking over-the-counter fever reducers to reduce a fever and its symptoms
• resting as much as possible
• drinking plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and replenish fluids lost while sweating
• taking antiviral medications, when applicable
• sitting in a lukewarm bath to bring your body temperature down

But if you have a fever that reaches 103°F (39°C) or higher, it’s best to call a doctor. You should also call a doctor if you have a baby with a rectal temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher. If you have a fever, keep an eye out for the following symptoms, which all indicate a need for medical treatment:

  • Severe headache
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest pain
  • Abdominal pains
  • Frequent vomiting
  • A rash, especially if it quickly gets worse
  • A stiff neck, especially if you feel pain when bending it forward
  • Confusion
  • Convulsions or seizures

Prevention is better than Cure!!

  • Drink only clean water and use boiled water or water purifiers.
  • Change your hand towels after a day's use.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief while coughing or sneezing.
  • Use mosquito repellents and nets (dengue transmitting mosquitoes usually bite during daytime; either early morning or late evening).
  • Keep their wet and soggy clothes or shoes away from dry garments.
  • Avoid eating out and consume as much fresh food as possible.
  • Drink warm water every two hours and carry home-boiled water while travelling.
  • Avoid visiting crowded places such as theatres or exhibitions.
  • Use hand sanitizers while travelling.
  • Cover your nose while travelling on a bike/while seated next to the window in a bus or train.

Infertility and Stress!

When I was young, my Granny used to tell me a story of a monster who kidnapped the princess and made the whole kingdom sad. Today when I see a lot of people with infertility coming to HARSHAI IVF for help, I realise that Monster “Stress” has stolen Princess “peace”...

Does this stress affect our fertility???? Yes, it does! And not just fertility, but our entire body function.
When my co-Director Dr. Tushar Dixit told me that he will be dedicating a month to “Stress management” for all on our site, it gave me the opportunity to share my knowledge about stress affecting fertility!
There are tremendous changes in hormones when a person goes through stress and everybody’s response to it is different. But if I have to put this in simple terms, I would say, stress leads to secretion of high amount of Prolactin hormone, which affects the egg formation process in a woman and hence fertility.

Does this Prolactin hormone affect only women??? No, it affects Men equally and leads to a decrease in sperm count and of course causes infertility.
Stress leads to a very bad quality of Eggs and Sperm quantity and quality which leads to infertility and also miscarriages (multiple).

What to Do??

1. Yoga – it brings back the balance and helps reduce stress

2. Eat healthy– removes toxins from your body and hence gives you a healthier body and mind

3. Be Positive – it maintains the balance on hormones and gives a brighter perspective

4. Do Meditation – Helps relax mind and body and decreases stress levels.

You Know What??
I have found this technique as a magic wand in my fairy tale kingdom, i.e. Counselling!!
Patients who come to me for the treatment of infertility, among them about 30% need just stress relief and a little amount of patience and no treatment!
I have saved you some information on Miscarriages and Stress too. So don’t miss my next article!! (Smiles). See you soon...& until then. Happy Parenthood to all from HARSHAI IVF center!

Women Empowerment – An Initiative!

Women Empowerment – An Initiative!

A patriarchal society is what we have seen since olden times and being labelled as “THE HOMEMAKER
AND NOTHING MORE” was a common notion. With the evident inequality and the rising crimes against
women, it is important women understand and remind themselves of their worth and capacity for
success, power, love and leadership! History has proved it time and again with great personalities
like Rani Laxmi Bai, Savitribai Phule, Indira Gandhi etc. who showed that women have the power to rule
and with success. As rightly put by Nathaniel Branden, “The first step towards change is awareness. The
second step is acceptance”. You cannot change yourself or the world without an awareness of the strength
within you and the perspective of the right and wrong!

On 18th April 2015, Saturday, Dixit hospital under the guidance of Dr. Asha T Dixit- Consultant
Gynaecologist and support of Dr. Tushar N Dixit, brought together approximately 250 women from the
community where a panel of entrepreneur women leaders recognised and appreciated the efforts women
put forth in their daily lives.

There was a lecture conducted by Dr. Asha Dixit on various the issues relating to women and ways to face
these challenges and solve them. Also, there was a panel discussion which consisted of renowned Women
leaders from various sectors of our society like, Dr. Asha Dixit (Consultant Gynaecologist Dixit Hospital),
Dr. Minaxi (Psychologist for KBS college), Adv. Ms. Rashmikaben (Renowned advocate), Mrs. Alpa Kotadia
(Principal VPS school) and Mrs. Chhaya Vadalia (NGO worker) covering the past experiences and future
plans towards a better health and success for women in the domain.

“I stand on the sacrifices of a million women before me thinking what can I do to make this mountain
taller so the women after me can see farther” - legacy by rupi kaur
